Educational Services Manager, Oxford University Press Mark Richard is a Taiwan-based trainer with seventeen years’ ELT experience in East Asia and Europe. He has taught all age groups in various schools and agencies. As OUP’s Educational Services Manager, he regularly presents at TESOL conferences, and is a certified trainer for the Oxford Teachers’ Academy. He loves to fill his students’ minds with curiosity so that they work hard without realizing it and think for themselves.
ELT Consultant, Oxford University Press Tim Tu is an ELT consultant with many years of teaching experience. He has taught English to different age groups from primary, secondary to adults in schools and language centers. As a qualified teacher, he is well aware of his own growth and uses reflective practices to monitor and improve his teaching skills. He is keen to contribute to the field and community through research, as a part of maintaining an open mind towards innovative teaching methodologies to be an effective teacher and trainer.

Why do students remember or forget words? We’ll start this session by looking at contributing factors such as visualization, themed memorization, and spaced repetition. When teachers understand how memory works, they can design more effective lessons. How can teachers help students remember words better? We’ll continue the session by sharing a range of techniques to boost students’ ability to store, retain, and use vocabulary.

Providing effective vocabulary instruction is not easy. In this session we will reveal the worldwide top 10 most popular vocabulary teaching and learning strategies and see how Taiwanese teachers relate to them. Also, do teachers’ beliefs and their individual learning experiences affect their instructional practices? Let’s explore the stories behind your teaching philosophies and find the vocabulary teaching strategy that suits you best!
11:00-12:00 講師:Mark Richard & Tim Tu
In this hands-on session, teachers will work in teams to try out a range of memory-based vocabulary activities, and reflect on which approaches best match their students’ needs.
