Mark Richard is a Taiwan-based trainer with seventeen years’ ELT experience in East Asia and Europe. He has taught all age groups in various schools and agencies. As OUP’s Educational Services Manager, he regularly presents at TESOL conferences, and is a certified trainer for the Oxford Teachers’ Academy. He loves to fill his students’ minds with curiosity so that they work hard without realizing it and think for themselves.
Tim Tu is an ELT consultant with many years of teaching experience. He has taught English to different age groups from primary, secondary to adults in schools and language centers. As a qualified teacher, he is well aware of his own growth and uses reflective practices to monitor and improve his teaching skills. He is keen to contribute to the field and community through research, as a part of maintaining an open mind towards innovative teaching methodologies to be an effective teacher and trainer.

How to Teach Listening in the Primary Classroom – Mark Richard
Listening is a receptive skill, but this does not mean that listeners are passive recipients of what they are hearing. As we listen, our brains are working hard to decode the stream of sound we hear and make sense of it. In this session, the trainer will establish key principles of teaching listening. He will provide tips to help students understand teachers’ spoken English, and advice and activities for using audio recordings in the classroom. Teachers will gain practical ideas to prepare their students to listen, apply and improve their listening skills, and help them develop a deeper appreciation and understanding for listening in English.

Listening practice for exam success – Tim Tu
Developing good listening skills is the first step in learning any language. If you cannot understand language you hear, you will not be able to communicate in it, let alone succeed in listening examinations! In this short session, we will identify common difficulties students face when listening to English. We will also learn how to help build up students’ listening skills and maximize their scores in listening exams, by utilizing a variety of approaches in different stages. Let’s unleash the power of our students’ listening abilities!
